
Warm Bathrooms, Happy Eyes: The Struggle with Heater Lamps
Most bathroom heaters use short-wave infrared to get you warm the second you flip the switch. It’s great for the chill, but it creates a real headache for us at the factory: the light. Standard halogen lamps are blinding. That harsh, high-intensity glare isn’t just annoying—it can actually be hard on your eyes. It’s especially risky for babies, whose eyes are still developing and can’t handle that kind of intensity. How we fix the glare We don’t want you squinting in your own shower. To stop the glare without losing the heat, we use quartz envelopes with special coatings. Think of it like a filter. It blocks out that piercing blue light and the harsh wavelengths, but lets the infrared heat slide right through. The result? A much softer, warmer glow. You still get that cozy, dry feeling in a damp room, but you aren’t burning your retinas. The heat factor These lamps are built to heat up fast. Really fast. But that speed puts a lot of pressure on the connectors and the ends of the lamp. If you go with a cheap housing, that heat eventually eats away at the wiring. That’s why we stick with high-temperature ceramics. It keeps the socket from frying itself during those brutal winter months. The honest trade-off Here’s the thing: you can’t get something for nothing. Whenever you add a coating to block light, you lose a tiny bit of the heat energy too. A “soft light” lamp might not be quite as punchy as a raw, clear-glass tube. To make up for that, you might need to bump up the wattage or move the lamps a bit closer together to keep the room feeling just as warm. It’s a small price to pay to make sure your bathroom is actually safe for your family.
