
Stop Fighting Your KHS Blowing Machine
Ever get those bottles where the walls are uneven or the whole shape just looks… off? Most engineers start by obsessing over the oven settings. They tweak the dials for hours, but they’re usually chasing a ghost. The real problem is almost always the heating bulbs. Either the spectral output is drifting or the lamps are just worn out. That’s why we build our infrared lamps to hit the exact thermal footprint these high-speed PET machines actually need. The secret is in the glass. If the quartz envelope isn’t pure, the heat just bounces off the surface of the preform instead of soaking in. We use high-grade quartz so the shortwave radiation actually penetrates the plastic. We also get obsessive about where the filament sits. If it’s off-center by even a fraction, you get “cold spots.” It’s frustrating. With our tubes, the heat flux is steady from one end to the other. No surprises. Getting them into your machine These are simple drop-in replacements. No hacking, no modifications. We match the wattage and voltage exactly. Why? Because overloading your power supplies is a great way to cause a headache you don’t need. Plus, we use standard industrial connectors. A loose fit leads to arcing, and arcing burns out your sockets. It’s a messy, expensive mistake that’s totally avoidable. We also use a halogen cycle. This stops the tungsten from gunking up the inside of the glass. Once a lamp clouds over, your heat transfer tanks. Our lamps stay clear. A quick word of advice Here’s the thing: if you crank up the wattage to squeeze out faster cycle times, your oven’s ventilation has to keep up. If your cooling blowers aren’t spec’d for that extra heat, your preforms will overheat. Simple as that. And while you’re swapping out the bulbs, do yourself a favor and check the reflectors. If they’re dirty, you’re wasting about 20% of your heat. It doesn’t matter how good the bulb is if the mirror is filthy.
