
Getting Your PET Blow Molding Heat Just Right
When you’re blow molding PET, it’s all a balancing act. You need enough heat to soften the preforms, but if you go overboard, you’re just scorching the plastic. It’s a fine line. We build our shortwave infrared lamps to be simple, drop-in replacements for Sidel and Krones systems. No fuss. We just make sure the electrical load, the size, and the heat output match up perfectly.
The Nitty-Gritty: Fits and Volts
Most high-output ovens run on high-voltage circuits to push that wattage through long quartz tubes. We match those specs exactly. Why? Because if you plug a lamp with the wrong resistance into your controller, you’re asking for trouble. You’ll either blow a fuse or end up with preforms that aren’t hot enough. Neither is a great way to spend a Tuesday. We stick to R7s and Sk15 connectors because they’re the gold standard. They snap in tight, which means no arcing at the contacts. Plus, we cut our tubes to the exact length you need, so you aren’t hacking away at your oven racks just to make things fit.
Quartz and the Heat Struggle
We use high-purity quartz glass. It has to be tough to handle the shock of heating up and cooling down over and over again. We also use a halogen-cycled tungsten filament. This stops the glass from getting that cloudy, dark look over time and keeps the heat flowing strong. Now, let’s talk about power. A 2500W tube really packs a punch, which is great for keeping your cycle times fast. But here’s the thing: that much heat puts a lot of pressure on your cooling fans. If your vents are clogged with dust, the housing will overheat and your filament will burn out way sooner than it should. Keep those fans clean.
Getting Them Into Production
The physics of heating PET are pretty much the same everywhere. That’s why these lamps work in about 95% of the gear out there. You don’t need some overpriced, brand-specific part.
