It’s usually because the lamp just couldn’t handle the heat or the build quality was a bit flimsy. It’s frustrating, and it kills your uptime. We got tired of seeing those generic replacements burn out way too early, so we built something better for the SBO 20 Series 2. Getting the heat right Here’s the thing: PET preforms are picky. They need a very specific kind of infrared heat to hit that “sweet spot” temperature. Most lamps start to bow or sag when they get hot. When that happens, the tube touches the reflector and you get hot spots. That’s how you end up with bottles that have uneven walls—which is a nightmare for quality control. To fix this, we used a reinforced quartz envelope. It stays straight. It stays put. No bowing, no hot spots, just a clean, consistent heat profile. Built for the people actually installing them We made these drop-in replacements. The connectors and dimensions are spot on, so you aren’t fighting with the fit. And let’s be honest: there’s nothing worse than a lamp snapping during installation. It’s a total headache for the maintenance crew. We hardened the quartz to stop that from happening. Plus, we tightened up the seal between the electrode and the quartz. That stops gas leaks, which is usually what kills a lamp’s life in the first place. A quick word of caution Now, if you crank up the wattage to speed up your cycle times, you’re going to put more pressure on your cooling system. Just keep an eye on your oven’s exhaust temperature. If the ambient heat gets too high, you’ll start frying your other electrical components. One last tip: don’t just swap out one dead tube. It’s way better to replace the full set. That keeps the heat uniform across the mandrel and keeps your bottles looking exactly how they should.
