
Getting Your SACMI Rotary Blow Molding Up to Speed
If you’ve ever run a SACMI rotary system with PC (polycarbonate) preforms, you know how stressful the timing is. You’re working with a tiny window of time to get that plastic soft. If your lamps are sluggish or acting up during start-up, you’re going to see those annoying cold spots or uneven walls in your bottles. It’s a headache.
Cutting Out the Start-Up Lag
Most standard quartz tubes take forever to warm up. We got tired of that, so we changed the recipe. By using a specific filament alloy and a better gas fill, we made lamps that hit peak wattage almost the second you flip the switch. It’s fast. Really fast. And that changes everything for your workflow because you aren’t just sitting there idling the machine during a shift change or after a stop. You just get to work.
The Nitty-Gritty on Heat
We tuned the wattage and voltage to create a heavy hit of heat exactly where it counts. We push higher voltage across a shorter filament, which sends a sharp spike of infrared energy deep into the PC material. The best part? It doesn’t scorch the outer surface. We also stick with R7s and Sk15 connectors. They aren’t just easy to plug in—they’re there to stop voltage drops. If a connection is loose at these power levels, you get arcing, and your sockets burn out way too soon. Nobody wants to deal with that.
One Thing to Watch Out For
Here’s the catch: these lamps put a lot of pressure on your cooling system. Since they ramp up so quickly, they throw a ton of heat into the oven housing. You’ve got to make sure your ventilation is actually doing its job. If the oven can’t breathe, the ambient heat builds up, and you’ll end up killing the lifespan of your lamps. But as far as installation goes? It’s a breeze. Just pull the old tube, wire it up, and you’re back in production.
